Here’s Some Ideas Regarding Wicker Bathroom Furniture

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

You know a good thing when you see it and wicker is just one of those materials that seems to withstand the test of time. This is true in several respects. First of all, the material itself is very durable and can last for a long time with the proper care. Second, it just has an appeal that can be used over the years without getting stale. Some home or bedroom decorating materials or features age quite quickly. Wicker makes for great indoor and outdoor furniture pieces. It comes in a variety of style, but they could be categorized generally into natural and synthetics. On the natural side, you’ve got rattan and on the synthetic side is just manmade materials that are designed to look like rattan or give you that wicker appearance.

As mentioned, one popular area you’ll find these pieces are outdoors. You can find many a patio filled with wicker chair sets and benches. Some more trendy designs even have stackable wicker furniture pieces. They have a great ability to withstand the elements outdoors with proper use and care. It can be hard to care for them properly if used in a setting that tests their bounds. This is true of areas like the dry, desert southwest where dust and extreme intense sunlight can wreak havoc on your patio furniture. It still makes a great choice for beneath a covered patio, though. One area where wicker makes for a great choice is indoors, specifically, in the bathroom space.

There are several reasons for this. One of the main reasons why you might be looking for wicker bathroom furniture is that you know of its benefits for mildew protection and ease of cleaning. In a bathroom, these are important features. Moisture in a bathroom leads to problems with musty smells, mold and other problems not found in the drier climates within your home. You can find wicker cabinets and other items that can hold your bathroom necessities like towels and toiletries all while giving you a very clean look. The particular style of weave can also give you a modern feeling to your wicker bathroom furniture as distinct from an outdoor patio set.

Decorating With Rattan Cube Wicker Furniture For Style

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Nothing screams modern garden spaces than using rattan cube furniture for style. This furniture looks just like it sounds. It is a series of cube like pieces that function as chairs, tables, stools and more. The rattan itself is perfect to have outdoors because it can stand just about anything nature throws its way. If you are on the prowl for a contemporary set of furniture for your outdoor space, you should not have to look any further than rattan cube furniture.

Rattan and wicker cube furniture are similar in the fact that they are made from woven materials found in nature. This makes them perfect to mold into a variety of shapes, but it is also durable enough to be used outside. The rattan or wicker is coated in a sealant to prevent warping, mold and the like, so you can use this furniture even out in wet weather.

When you use rattan garden furniture, you need to make sure that you repeat the geometric theme throughout your outdoor space. This may mean that you use square tiles for the flooring or you put cube lighting around the space. You can use some natural lines with square furniture, but you should at least repeat the square pattern somewhere nearby so everything looks cohesive.

You can play around a lot with the fabric of your wicker cube outdoor furniture. Some people like to get bold fabrics that match the bold lines of the furniture, and others like to keep everything subtle and solid. You can get something neutral that can last awhile and just use accent pillows to create a pop. Those can be inexpensively changes out whenever you want them to be.

If you do not think the cubes are going to be comfortable, you may think about having just a few of them around and then just using the same style of rattan in the rest of the space. You can keep the same color and material throughout, but you can change the form if need be. As long as you have some sort of consistency, everything should blend well together.

Most cube rattan pieces are made in black or tan, making them flexible for most decorating environments. Since rattan is a long lasting material anyway, you can rest assured that your investment into this garden furniture will not go unrewarded. You should not have to get any new furniture for a long time.

No matter what your plans are for your garden area, you can likely find a place for rattan squares within it. From the clean lines to the durable material, this furniture was made to be used outside. You can get as creative as you want with it as long as you are happy with the space you develop in the end. Let your imagination run wild.

Why buy honeycomb shades

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Cellular blinds, which is also known as honeycomb blinds due to the way their designs look like honeycomb from afar, are a beautiful addition to any home. Such blinds have been around and are gaining popularity over the years. Although they are still not as well known as wooden blinds, they have quite a number of qualities that make them good candidates for your windows.

Cellular blinds are very flexible when it comes to home decor as they can fit well with almost any decor theme. If you want your blinds to go from bottom to top or from top to bottom, cellular shades have both options. They can also be fitted as vertical blinds for larger window frames.

Another benefit of cellular blinds is their insulation ability. Unlike other blinds, cellular shades have layers of air trapped between their cells which created a good insulation layer. The thicker the cells are i.e. single, double or triple, the more powerful the insulation is. Hence, cellular shades are good for noise reduction as well as to maintain the temperature of the room. The latter can help to reduce the energy consumption level of the home and lower your electricity bills.

Finally, cellular blinds come with cordless versions. These are great for kids’ room as they are much more safer. Normal blinds have strings that young kids can fumbled into and get themselves entangled. In the worst case scenario, the strings can round up their neck and suffocate them to death. So, having cordless versions of blinds can definitely help to improve home safety.

Although there are benefits to buying cellular blinds, there are some drawbacks as well. For one, they are not as easy to clean due to the non flat surfaces that these blinds have. They are also more pricey than normal wooden blinds so people on a budget might find them too expensive.

All Weather Wicker Furniture are Excellent for Those Rainy Climates

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

There are of course a lot of people who love the looks of wicker furniture for their garden. However, many times people hesitate to buy garden furniture of this material because they feel it won´t stand the test of time especially not in rainy climates without having a place to storage their garden furniture.

It is thought that wicker garden furniture is prone to break down faster than any other material, especially when you take in account the more modern materials used for outdoor furniture these days, like PVC and all sorts of specially prepared wooden materials.

If you are a big fan of wicker furniture and are thinking of buying some for your garden I am sure you are happy to find that nowadays there is something called All Weather Wicker Furniture that is especially designed to ensure that your furniture stays up to scratch and 100% attractive even when it is left outside in the rain.

One big difference, apart from the material that is used, is the way that the furniture is woven. The all weather furniture for example does not show where one piece of wicker stops and the next continues, these extensions often are the exact spots where breaking down takes place since water can get in and thus make the wicker fragile. When it comes to the all weather version, the extensions are carefully prepared in such a way that there is no danger that water can get in.

Even better, the wicker is prepared such a way that the older the furniture gets, the more attractive and natural looking it will become. And even though you might find that the all weather wicker furniture comes at a price a little higher than your normal wicker furniture, you will soon agree that it is a better buy seeing that you will be able to enjoy it a lot longer.

Choosing Wicker Outdoor Furniture

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Wicker is a type of hard woven natural fiber material which is typically formed into objects such as baskets, outdoor dining furniture and many more. Wicker furniture is popular, especially because of the features that it offers. It is sturdy and well suited ideal as outdoor furniture because it is very light when carried thus it can be moved around easily.   The material which are commonly used in wicker are natural fibers and these fibers can be from any piece of a plant such as the stalk of a palm’s foundation or core, bamboo trees and many more.

There are findings that it has been used as furniture since the ancient times like way back in the Iron Age and ever since the time of ancient Egypt. Today furniture which is made from a woven fiber can be made out of two materials which are synthetic or natural. A wicker that is made out of an artificial or synthetic material is usually from plastic which is favored in open air situations. On the other hand the natural wicker furniture is preferred for indoor use or dual use because of the durability and other convenient qualities it offers but a piece of advice from wicker manufacturers,  regular maintenance is a must to preserve the furniture’s appearance. Obviously both are patronized by people worldwide (may it be synthetic or natural) because of the numerous handy and comfortable features it offers.

With so many woven wicker outdoor furniture pieces in the market today choosing or purchasing one may be difficult, especially if you do not have any idea on what to look for in this kind of furniture. Here are a few guidelines before choosing and buying one.

Consider the style that you would want for your wicker weave furniture as well as the color that you would want. Try picturing it outside your garden, make sure it suits the color scheme of your garden and also remember to allot enough space for it.

Apparently financial crisis is the tough problem that people are currently facing around the globe and many cannot afford to buy cheap things that will make them end up returning items to the store. That is why it is best to invest on a wicker that is branded or a bit pricey at least with this you are sure with the life span and with the quality. But if you are on a tight budget and if you are decided to buy then it is sensible to canvass, read and review materials that are related to wicker outdoor furniture such as magazines and the like, so you would be knowledgeable on how to get the best deals.

Avoid Buyer’s Remorse with a Portable Hot Tub

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Throughout the years I have accumulated quite a large collection of things that I have bought that I probably should not have.  Everyone has fallen victim to that moment of weakness when you are sitting in front of the television and then think you see something you have to have.  The next thing you know you are trying to find a spot in your garage for six foot tall home gym you bought at two in the morning.  Unfortunately, there is rarely a reset button once you buy something you are stuck with it just in time to realize that you don’t really want it.  It is the fear of this scenario that prevents people from going out and purchasing things that they really want, things that could really improve their lives.  If you want something you should not be scared away from it because of a price tag despite how many cumbersome home gyms you have wasting away in your garage.  If there is item you want, and it is expensive, do some research and really think about how you will benefit from it before you take the plunge.  This holds especially true when it comes to hot tubs.

Hot tubs can scare a lot of people away because of their large price tags not to mention all the hot tub accessories you will need once you purchase one.  There is a solution however, to this anxiety and it comes in the form of portable hot tub.  Many times, portable hot tubs are a great alternative to conventional hot tubs.  They are a fraction of the price which means there will be a lot less guilt for you.  Portable hot tubs can be just as enjoyable as standard hot tubs but cost a lot less money.  It is a lot less of commitment to buy a portable hot tub and you won’t have that nagging voice in the back of your mind telling you that you just made a big mistake.   If you are in the market for a hot tub but do not want to spend a whole lot of money than maybe you should give portable hot tubs some attention.

Caring for your outdoor wicker furniture and natural wicker furniture

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Although outdoor wicker furniture are long lasting and durable, you will still need to clean and care for them to keep it dust-free and clean.  You will need to clean woven wicker furniture regularly with the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner. When using the vacuum, you should follow the direction of the weave and make sure you vacuum thoroughly to get rid of all the dust stuck in the crevices and corners.

If the crevices are too small for the vacuum brush to get to, you can remove the debris using an old toothbrush or a small paintbrush with short bristles (or you can trim the bristles to half its length).

Once you get the dust out, you can wipe down your wicker furniture with a damp rag to remove any stains or build up especially at places where it is mostly handled such as the arms and backs of chairs and the tabletops. You can dampen the rag in a mild soapy solution first and then rinse the rag in clear water and wipe again to remove the soapy residue.

As for some wicker furniture that is combined with wooden components, you will need to take good care of the wooden components the same way you care for wood furniture. You will need to regularly clean and polish these components to maintain the finish of the wooden surfaces.

Natural wicker furniture can dry out over time especially in places with low humidity so it is best that you do not place your natural wicker furniture near heater vents, fireplaces, radiators or any place with sources of dry heat. This is to maintain the moisture content of the natural wicker.  You should also avoid placing natural indoor wicker furniture outdoors under direct sunlight as sunlight may also dry out and fade your furniture.

If your natural wicker furniture do not have a protective finish, it will dry out over the years. So, if you notice the wicker becoming brittle, you can restore the moisture content of the wicker by rinsing the piece of furniture with clear water. You can also use this opportunity to give your wicker furniture a ‘washing’ with your garden hose. Just add a mild soapy solution and use a soft bristle brush to scrub it free of dirt and grime. Just remember to scrub gently in the direction of the weave so as not to damage the weave.

After soaping and scrubbing it, then rinse it with clear water and you can use moderate water pressure to get at debris and dirt caught in between the weave and crevices. When you finish washing it, elevate the furniture to let the water run off and then use a dry rag to wipe it dry as much as possible. To completely dry it, just place it out in the open on a sunny day.

Remember to let your wicker furniture dry completely before taking it back in for use.

Why choose outdoor wicker furniture

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

So, a lot have been mentioned about the versatility of outdoor wicker furniture and how long lasting it is. It is economical too and of a high quality with an elegant look to it.

If those reasons are not enough to have you ordering your first set of outdoor wicker furniture, let me explain to you in detail the benefits of having outdoor wicker furniture. Let’s take a look at the much mentioned trait of it’s versatility. Outdoor wicker furniture is versatile in the sense that you can use it outdoors, indoors, in-between, anywhere you fancy. You can place it on the porch, on the balcony, on the patio, in the sun room, in the dining room, in the garden, by the poolside, in the living room, in the bedroom or even in the attic. Yep, you can get wicker furniture for practically any room or living space you fancy. If that’s not called versatility, I don’t know what else is.

The reason it is so versatile is because it comes in many different design and the choices are so varied, you’d be hard press to make up your mind. In fact, if you start browsing through the many wicker furniture designs available, you’d be tempted to get a set for the porch, a set for the living room, a set for the dining area, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Then, we talk about long lastingness. There are many households with natural wicker furniture that has been around for decades and the furniture is still as good as new. Though, it may have faded or the finishing may have been scratched or dulled over the years, this can easily be remedied with a touch up.

But if you are talking about outdoor wicker furniture or all-weather wicker furniture, then you won’t even see scratches on it and it does not even need to be touched up at all! This is because it is made from a resin that holds the color of its finishing very well unlike natural wicker furniture which could get scratched, dented or damage but is easily reparable with touch ups.

Accessorize your wicker furniture to give it a brand new look

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

What do you do if you have a set of old wicker furniture that badly needs a makeover?

Well, other than throwing it out and getting a new set or taking it to a professional crafter to re-finish it, there is an easier, DIY way to giving it a new breath of life. Wicker furniture is very versatile, so much so that you can accessorize wicker furniture with cushions of any color or material.

You can have a deluxe custom cushion made for the furniture and there are plenty of custom fabric you can choose from. However, if your wicker furniture is not designed to be used with cushions, you can’t force a cushion on it. You can think of other ways like adding a colorful blanket on it or even placing throw pillows (instead of custom fit cushions) on it.

If you are keen on adding custom fit cushions, do check your furniture first. It will prove to be more comfortable if you use it with wicker furniture that is specifically made to to accept cushions. If you insist on placing custom-made cushions on wicker furniture that is designed without cushions, it may prove to be uncomfortable to sit on.

The best way to determine if a wicker furniture is suitable to have cushions on it or not is to sit on it. Is it very comfortable without cushion? Then this means it is designed without the need for cushions. But if it felt as it is lacking in something, that means you need to add some cushions to it!

In choosing your cushions, you will have to make sure that you get high quality deluxe cushions that are comfortable, fits the furniture and is long lasting. To bring a sharp contrast and some colors to your wicker furniture, you should choose bright colors that matches your furniture and does not clash unnecessarily.

So, go ahead, give your outdoor wicker furniture a lift with some bright splashes of colors!
